Kirsten Hurley has been named in the New Zealand U21 Netball Team. Kirsten was named as College Dux Ludorum in 2010, her final year at Saint Kentigern. She was a talented sportswoman who excelled in many areas but concentrated on developing her netball skills.
Kirsten is a very able centre and wing-defence; positions she has played for her Counties/Manukau team. She was named in the 12 player NZ U21 squad to play in a tournament held in Ballarat, Australia to play against Australia, England, South Africa and Samoa. All players selected are also eligible for the World Youth Championships in Glasgow, August 2013.
As a civil engineering student, Kirsten juggles study commitments with netball, including the increased gym and strength training, to hopefully earn a spot at an ANZ Championship franchise next year. Because the ANZ Championship has jumped up in physicality, she says she has to be a lot more prepared for that when she possibly gets to that level – ‘It’s about building a good solid base now.’
We will watch Kirsten’s netball future with interest.
